Like many of us, I have shelves of Sun distributions, from Sun OS4.x
through Solaris 9.

I had the idea last week of getting rid of some, and posted a bunch of
them on Ebay for a couple of dollars each. My thinking was that if
anybody needs the CD's, let them make use of them

Lo and Behold, Sun had Ebay remove my listings. According to Ebay,
the Vero program participant (Sun Microsystems) complained that my
listings violated their copyright.

In particular these were Solaris 7 and 8.

I just checked, and there are still several dozen other listings on
Ebay for Solaris distributions. I don't get it.

Does anybody have a similar experience?

I can see still some of ebay seller posted Solaris 8.

I do not understand why Sun microsystem want to halt your generous offer to
sell some extra stuff as cheap price to
Other Solaris user.

It does not make sense for me.

I'm not totally sure of this answer, but Sun recently changed the Right
to Use model it's had for years. They now explicitly bundle (my word)
the RTU with boxes they sell. I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like Sun
is using this change in RTU model to enhance revenue (that's suit talk
for squeeze the customer becaue of recent large losses).

Sorry to hear about the mess Sun made. Best of luck with their maggot
lawyers.

Could you let me know if you have following product in stock?

1. SOLZS-080B9AYM, qty 10
2. SOLZS-080B9AYH, qty 10

Either one would be fine for me as NIB condition.

Please feel free to contact me at ***@gshiis.com or simply make a phone
call to
1-978-630-3325 if you have any available qty for sale.

Thank you.

Say what?
Sun boxes have been bundles with Solaris licenses for.. well.. ever (give
or take a few years).

Scott,

I'm aware Sun has been supplying the OS with the hardware forever, but I
should be clearer. The explicit RTU I'm talking about is a device Sun
uses to try to keep gray market hardware vendors down. Sun doesn't want
to grant the right to use their software on those gray market boxes,
thereby effectively rendering them useless (unless somebody wants to use
a linux distro or wants to write their own OS). Sun's not some
benevolent outfit trying to give their software away and my guess is
that their recent losses have driven them to taking a harder line about
resale of the OS. Those OS's for sale on EBay are easy targets for them.
