Post by Bruno Saverio DelbonoPost by AndrePost by Bruno Saverio DelbonoBelieve me...this guy is fscking turd. He wants to pay $500 CAD for an
8-way e4500 with 4 GB RAM with D1000 array. Claims the market has gone
bad...
A bit stingy, that is. What did you actually want for the box?
Not much really...I had wondered what the "so called" fair market value
was..I personally paid US $2450 for both (8*400 MHz (8MB cache), 4 GB
RAM, 1 SOC+ I/O Board, UW-SCSI (to connect to the D1000), TGX+ with a
9.1 GB * 12 D1000 array) and a 3 year warranty.
There isn't a fair market value, 'so called' or otherwise.
Did you ask any other 'merchants' for an offer?
What was their response?
His price and theirs are what they are prepared to pay now.
It's only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
If he has a small army of them, marching down his warehouse,
he's not going to pay much for another 2 systems.
OTOH, if he only had 1 he may value it a bit higher.
Your $2450 USD was what you were prepared to pay whenever
you bought them. (You don't say when.)
Something that jumps out at me...
3 years is an exceptional warranty.
Did you have to pay extra for that?
Someone would have to hold at least one complete system and
some spares to cover that warranty.
The Enterprise market hasn't just gone bad, it's been going bad
for over 2 years. There's no resale outlet in complete systems
any more and the only future for your systems (or any Ex00)
is in parts and spares. And there are a lot of systems about.
The range goes from E3000 to E10000. Many of the parts are
interchangable on the E3000 to E6500 range. That does not help
your attempt to sell. 'Merchants' can get the spares from smaller,
less-well-specced systems.
Whenever you bought your systems, the market had already gone.
Post by Bruno Saverio DelbonoThe funny thing is that he wouldn't sell me the same spec machine for
the price he wants to buy it for
Why would he sell you the same spec machine for the price he
wants to buy it for? Would there be any point, commercially, in
doing that?
Go in any shop and say, 'Look, I'm only going to pay what you
paid for this! How much was that?'
Let me know what they say.
Post by Bruno Saverio Delbono(wanted like $5000 for the same thing!
:P). Sometimes I'm surprised how fscking stupid these merchants are.
OK, I may be biased here, being a 'merchant', but offering you
$500 CAD does not make the guy a 'fscking turd'.
Asking $5000 (USD, or CAD) does not make him 'fscking stupid'.
He's entitled to offer you what he wants to pay for the kit: you're
entitled to say, 'No'. Or 'Fsck off!' if it makes you feel happier.
He's entitled to quote whatever he wants to supply that kit: and
you - again - are entitled to say, 'No, thanks, I'll take my business
elsewhere, good man.' Or some variant.
It's the essence of Free Enterprise, innit.
You may say, as I'm sure you will, 'But, Shirley, 4500 somethings
profit is excessive?' And I'd have to say, 'Yes', but...
Sadly, that is based on some assumptions:
1. That he can buy this kit for $500 (which we know he hasn't!;-)
2. That he has already bought it for $500 (which I very much doubt).
3. That he can sell it for $5000 (which, again, I very much doubt).
But here you have, finally, an indication of the kit's worth.
It's somewhere more than $500 CAD - that you won't accept - and
something less than the $5000 USD - that you think is exorbitant.
I suspect (having bought about a dozen Ex00 systems, but sold none,
in the past week or two) that the value lies closer to $500 than to
$5000 - and if you get $1000 USD you'll be doing well.
(But that's not an offer!;-)
Psst... Anyone want a good used Enterprise, or 12?
OK, some processors, or memory, then?
Look, some keys? C'mon, you can never have enough keys!
Here... The little clear plastic strip...
