Title says it all...

I thought I had won some on ebay, but as the price was very favorable
($213 for 2x147GB), they magically got dropped right before the end of
the auction and therefore cannot be sold.Obviously the guy is not quite
ready to pass his "Professional Liar" exam...

Anyway, this is to put in both slots of a Sun Blade 1000. If anybody has
some for sale, drop me a line...

Thanks in advance!

Tell him the fact they were dropped does not bother you.

No wait, it gets better: the story now is that they are bent/warped!
Now, how do you bend or warp a 3/4" thick aluminum case by dropping?
Beats me...

Obviously the guy wanted more for his drives, and is trying to weasel
out of the agreement. There's not much you can do (unless you're a
lawyer and enjoy lawsuits).

Tell the seller you're giving negative feedback. Send a copy of the
emails to eBay. Sellers can report deadbeat bidders, and I believe
buyers can equally reports sellers who don't want to complete the deal.
After three such occurences, eBay membership is terminated.

Obviously, this only has an effect when the seller is keen to maintain
his eBay account and a good rating.

At least you didn't send them the money.

The guy has already offered the drives for $350 each offline, so they
are definitely broken :-)

Negative feedback has been exchanged, I sent a complaint to ebay who
didn't even bother replying.

I then spent $30 for Squaretrade to get a "private mediator".
Squaretrade is even more useless! It is all turning into a big joke!
Buyer protection? Ebay seller rules? ebay couldn't care less, they have
been paid... ebay is worse and worse every year...

Alas, that's what happens when there's little or no competition.
Windoze is, of course, a prime example.

Care to give his eBay handle and other personalia? Then at least
we know whom to avoid.

I had the experience once with a big German seller. They advertised
a new-in-originall-box 19" rack with glass door. When it arrived it was
not new, the key didn't match so I couldn't open it, and the glass door
had morphed into a scratched metal door.

Repeated messages and calls had no effect (they did not even bother to
send a matching key), and when I finally decided to leave negative
feedback they had the gall to give me negative feedback as well. They
use the handle "arc-computer2" and currently have 16000+ feedback.

It was a similar situation to yours - I was the only bidder and the
price obviously wasn't what they'd hoped for.

Good to know - I'll stay clear of Squaretrade.

Take care,

spee917 is the ebay ID... I don't really want to disclose anything else,
but it's easy enough to track down :-)

Squaretrade is probably the best scam of all... After a little research,
it turns out the private mediator is an academic (the kind with pompous
title teaching useless classes, triple PhD in
Tango/Pizza-Slicing/Kung-Fu... The only problem with this dude is his
listening skills. While both seller & buyer were throwing shit at each
other in front of him, his only reply was "well, since everybody seems
in agreement, why don't we drop each other's negative feedback and call
it quits". Hellooooooooooo?!?!

Take care,
Just another one happened to me today. A PC technical giant left me a
neutral feedback for not mentioning that my sgi Octane speakers were not
for PC and that it didn't come with an AC adapter... Never mind the
"sgi" and "Octane" and the extra cord sticking out of the speakers for
powering directly off the Octane... Needless to say the buyer never
contacted me even once prior, during or after the transaction...

Yes, sadly. Some time ago I had a problem with an overseas buyer (I'm
in Germany, seller was in the US). I was offering a gfx card on ebay
which he bought. Despite my warnings and concerns he insisted to have
it shipped without insurance/delivery receipt which is just plain
stupid for an almost 200EUR item. A short time ago I got a negative
feedback in which the buyer claimed he didn't receive anything and that
gives the reader the impression that it was only my claim that he
didn't want insurance - of course I still have the emails as proof..

Claimed the case with ebay, but only got the automatic answers with
"read our faq about our roules for sellers and buyers". Really great...

What ebay really needs is some heavy competition so that they have to
proove themselves in the market. But with ebay being the only
international online auction they don't have to care for customer
service or fraud protection.

I tried that - but your mail address is bouncing. If you still need a
drive, maybe I can help you as I got a Blade 1000 for cheap and I'm
trying to get some bigger (and cheaper non FCAL disks) to work in. If
that succeeds I could offer it to you.

Cheers,
Jan
